What Is an IFSC Code?

The Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) is an 11-character alphanumeric code assigned by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to every bank branch in India. It is required for electronic fund transfers through NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, and UPI. The first 4 characters identify the bank (e.g., SBIN for State Bank of India), the 5th is always 0 (reserved), and the last 6 characters identify the specific branch.

How to Find Your IFSC Code

How to Use NEFT / RTGS / IMPS with IFSC Code

To transfer funds online, you need the recipient's account number and their bank branch's IFSC code. For NEFT (settled in batches), RTGS (real-time, minimum ₹2 lakh), or IMPS (instant, 24x7), enter the 11-character IFSC code along with the account number. Always verify the IFSC code on your recipient's cheque or bank statement before initiating a transfer.
